Since 2011, the Network of Human Rights Defenders in Central Africa (REDHAC) and its various partners in the Protection Grants program have provided financial and practical support to Human Rights Defenders in danger.

Protection Grants can fund arrangements to improve the safety and protection of human rights defenders and their organizations, including:

  • Improve the physical security of an organization or individual, digital security and communications security;
  • Support for the legal costs of HRDs who are victims of legal harassment and those detained for reasons related to their work as defenders;
  • Payment of medical expenses for HRDs who have been attacked or who suffer health problems due to their peaceful human rights activities;
  • Family assistance to imprisoned HRDs or their family members who are in danger.
