REDHAC even advocates regionally to encourage the States of Central Africa to:

  • Adopt laws relating to the promotion and protection of Human Rights Defenders for the recognition of the status of defenders and other activists in accordance with the Kigali Declaration of 1999 and the Grand Baie Declaration of 2003;
  • Protect more effectively Women Human Rights Defenders (FDDH) and Vulnerable Human Rights Defenders (DDHV) and journalists.

Notably :

  1. Implementation of an advocacy project for the effective establishment of the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission through the establishment of an inclusive and multi-actor reflection framework for the drafting of the consensual memorandum serving as a basis for advocacy and the adoption of a strategic inclusive advocacy plan at the local, national, regional and international level for the effective holding of the CVJR in Cameroon.
  2. The Advocacy Mission in the Central African Republic with Mr. Michel FORST, Special Rapporteur at the time of the United Nations Human Rights Defenders on the contextualized law during a consultation bringing together members of civil society, state actors and non-state, the CNDH, and MINUSCA in September 2018
  3. Participation in the Launch of the activities of the Regional Secretariat of the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Peace and Conflict Prevention in Central Africa (COPAC), set up by UNOCA of which REDHAC is a member of the steering committee
  4. Participation in the work of the summit of heads of state and ministers of ECCAS supported by UNOCA and technical support from ECCAS in November 2020

REDHAC makes regular referrals to the Special Rapporteurs of the ACHPR on the relevant situation of Human Rights Defenders in Central Africa by proposing recommendations.

As holder of observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR). REDHAC attends the ordinary session of the Commission and carries out continuous advocacy by proposing recommendations, some of which were adopted:

  • Discuss emerging trends in the protection of human rights defenders in Africa and develop strategies to strengthen the Ubuntu Hub Cities initiative; and assess the capacities of sub-regional networks to respond to the current situation of HRDs in their respective regions.
