The initiative to contextualize the draft bill on “Protection of human rights defenders in the Republic of Congo”, the process of which is currently underway, was initiated by the NGO Rencontre pour la Paix et Human Rights (RPDH) since 2020. REDHAC and several partner organizations held a consultation in Brazzaville with human rights defenders from Central Africa for the drafting of this bill followed by its rereading by two experts from an international organization based in Minneapolis in the United States to verify its compliance with international human rights standards.
In this contextualization process, there are several civil society organizations including the Consultation Council of Development NGOs (CCOD) whose mission is to promote consultation and dialogue between all stakeholders, including state structures.
The Association for Human Rights and the Prison Universe (ADHUC), for its part, whose mission is to get involved in this process through advocacy with the partners and structures concerned, has unfortunately not yet given its point of view until now the time to examine this draft law from top to bottom.
