Who we are
The Network of Human Rights Defenders in Central Africa (REDHAC) is a sub-regional network which at the beginning had 10 countries, including Rwanda and Burundi, today, the Network has 8 countries in Central Africa (because that Rwanda and Burundi have joined the East African community and joined the Network of Human Rights Defenders of the Horn and East Africa), REDHAC has set up 8 Coalitions, it has within it the Defenders s individuals, human rights lawyers, etc… REDHAC’s mission is the promotion and protection of Human Rights, Fundamental Freedoms, and respect for Democracy through the African Charter of Democracy, Elections and Governance in Africa (CADEG), the promotion and protection of Defenders in Central Africa with particular emphasis on Women Defenders, LGBTI Defenders, and other Human Rights Defenders Vulnerable (DDHV), and the involvement in sustainable peace and reconciliation in the sub-region since the adoption of the REDHAC strategic action plan during its 2019 General Assembly.
Our organization chart is made up of:

- National authorities, National HR institutions, Diplomatic Representations, African and UN Human Rights Mechanisms.
- Promotion, Protection of HRDs, Documentation, Monitoring, Prevention,
- Legal advice.

L’Assemblée Générale est l’organe suprême du REDHAC.
Elle a pour rôle :
- Déterminer la politique globale ou les grandes orientations du REDHAC ;
- Elire les membres du conseil d’administration ;
- Recevoir et adopter les rapports narratifs et financiers ;
- Aborder des questions pertinentes de la sous-région relative aux droits de l’homme ;
- Adopter les textes de base de l’organisation ;
- Dissoudre l’organisation.
The Board of Directors is the body for supervision, orientation and evaluation of REDHAC programs between the two sessions of the General Assembly.
As such, he is authorized to:
- Act within the limits established by the Statutes and in compliance with the laws in force in member countries;
- Appoint the executive director;
- Control, evaluate and guide the execution of the tasks of the permanent secretariat;
- Establish the REDHAC provisional program and submit it to the General Assembly;
- Ensure the execution of the approved forecast program;
- Submit the provisions of the texts to be modified to the General Assembly;
- Ensure the implementation of the decisions of the General Assembly;
- Validate the recruitment of REDHAC staff in accordance with the country’s labor laws and its assessment
Its role is to:
- He is responsible for implementing the activities of the
- It ensures the collaboration of REDHAC and or the conclusion of cooperation agreements with all organizations and services of strategic importance both inside and outside the Region.
- He/she is accountable for his/her management to the board of directors and to any potential;
- He/she manages the staff and assets of REDHAC;
- He/she prepares half-yearly reports of his/her activities. These reports are approved by the board of directors and distributed to members of the organization.
The Country Coalitions serve as relays for the action of the Permanent Secretariat in each member country. They are led by three (03) members at country level (a coordinator, a secretary and a communications officer).
Its role is to:
- Provide advice on dispute resolution procedures;
- Carry out permanent legal monitoring and follow developments in the law, case law and regulatory or conventional texts;
- Draft legal or contractual acts or documents.

Ils veillent scrupuleusement à ce que les Etats membres des Nations Unies, les Etats parties signataires de la Charte Africaine des Droits de l’Homme et des Peuples (CADHP) assurent la promotion et la protection des droits sans discrimination aucune conformément aux traités et conventions signés et ratifiés librement.
